About Us

Gather for Children operates on seven acres of land owned by Iryn Namubiru in a convenient location in Mityana. Land as well as farming equipment /materials such as hoes , slashes , pesticides , spraying equipment , gumboots , pangas and other day to day necessities such as clothes , books , shoes pads etc. have been provided by Iryn Namubiru and other good Samaritans. Membership currently at 40+ and growing, made up of mothers, grandmothers, young mothers and the children they care for.

The organization was started by singer Irene Namubiru who is an established female vocalist and one of the leading artists in Uganda.

She started singing at a young age, and has performed extensively in Uganda and abroad over the past 2 decades, collaborating with a wide variety of artists and bands. Irene has earned numerous awards for her musical accomplishments, including: best female artist at the PAM awards in 2006, 2010, 2011; and artist of the year at Diva Awards 2010.

Her greatest reward has been taking care of a growing number of children and caregivers in Mityana, which started as personal responsibility in the 1990’s and has since developed into the NGO, Gather for Children.

Our Objectives

To improve the livelihood of women caregivers of Orphans, young mothers and Vulnerable Children through equipping them with entrepreneurial skills.
To build alliances with organizations with the similar mandate in Uganda and broader civil society to further the aims of Gather for Children.
To advocate and lobby regional, national and international level for the rights of women caregivers of Orphans , young mothers and Vulnerable Children.
To oppose all forms of stigma and discrimination against women caregivers of Orphans, young mothers and Vulnerable Children.
To achieve sustainable development goals No.5 and NO.8 (5.Gender equality and 8. Economic growth) of the UN goals for caregivers of Orphans and Vulnerable Children.
